After my transplant, I chose to return to healthcare professionally. I worked as an in-center hemodialysis technician, a home dialysis technician, and later as a Kidney Care Options Educator. In every role, my focus was the same: listening to patients, helping them understand their options, and bringing humanity into spaces that can often feel clinical and overwhelming.
In 2023, my transplanted kidney rejected, and I returned to dialysis. Re-entering life as a patient—after years of working in dialysis—clarified my purpose even more. It highlighted the gap that often exists between clinical care and lived experience, and the powerful impact that patient-centered understanding can have on outcomes, trust, and quality of life.
Today, I work as a Patient Experience Consultant and Speaker, partnering with healthcare organizations and dialysis teams to bring real patient insight into professional spaces. I help teams better understand what life on dialysis is actually like—and how care can be delivered in ways that honor the full human experience, not just the diagnosis.
